Geothermal system for house air conditioning

Do you know how much power is utilized for the working of the air conditioning system in your houses? It is a huge load. The power used for these purposes is more of coming from the non renewable sources of energy. So how is  the plan of setting up a air conditioning system with the support of earth's energy.Yes the earth's energy is what is called geothermal energy one of the most important renewable sources of energy. It is actually easily affordable for the common man to install a geothermal ground source heat pump(it is also called so).More than that one can avoid using the fossil fuel which is costlier to get a more clean green fuel.

Two ground-source heat pump units stacked on top of each other. Heat is extracted or added to water which is pumped undergound.

Strictly speaking, what's often called a "geothermal system" is a misnomer because it implies tapping the heat in the Earth, something already done at large scale to supply electricity to utilities. This geothermal energy--and its offshoot enhanced geothermal--works only works in certain geographies and uses different technology.Rather than use underground heat, geothermal heat pumps attached to buildings capitalize on the steady temperature of the ground or deep water wells. In effect, they treat the Earth like a giant energy savings bank, depositing or withdrawing heat depending on the time of year.

The pump room at an apartment building in Fitchburg, Massachusetts.

During the summer, the systems pump indoor heat to underground and draw on the lower temperatures of the Earth to cool a building. In colder months, the same process works in reverse order where the heat from the ground being used to warm indoor air in the building.

Indoors are box-shaped heat pumps that pull and and push either water or a working fluid, such as antifreeze, in and out of the ground. Using the same compressor loop mechanism that a refrigerator has, a heat exchanger draws energy from the circulating liquid to either heat or cool a building.

In actual calculations geothermal system uses only 25 to 50 % less electricity than the conventional way of air conditioning. Also the amintenance cost of the system is nearly half of that of conventional method.Under the recently passed federal there is renewable soourdes of energy incentives of $2000 per year credit. The only disadvantage of the geothermal system is that its initial capital is little expensive that it comes about the double charge as that of the conventional heating and cooling.

Volkswagen's Jetta TDI-the green car of the year

Volkswagen's Jetta TDI is considered to be the new green car of the year 2009.It got all new facilities and the green features that one car could ever get at this point of time.

The 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI is the latest evolution of VW’s 30-plus years of diesel investment in the North American automotive market. This car is clean enough to meet the most stringent and hard current emissions standards, allowing sale in all 50 U.S. states, including those adopting California clean air standards. And modern clean diesel engines are easy to operate and live with, quiet, and smooth and are mostly adorable.

Fuel economy will be the primary motivation or key feature one looking into when buying a Jetta TDI. EPA estimates are 30 mpg city and 41 mpg highway with the manual transmission. Independent third party testing by AMCI found real world economy to be 24 percent higher, delivering 38 mpg in the city and 44 mpg on the highway.

The 2.0 liter TDI produces 140 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and more importantly, 236 lbs-ft of torque that’s available from just 1,750 rpm.
With the five-speed manual, the Jetta posts a 0-60 mph time of 8.2 seconds. The six-speed DSG automatic transmission with Tipronic and Sport mode will hit 60 mph in 8.5 seconds.

Jetta TDI is able to meet 50 states emissions without the added complexity of AdBlue urea injection in the exhaust system to neutralize NOx emissions. Advanced catalytic converter technology, a NOx catalyst that temporarily stores NOx emissions and then burns them off , and a diesel particulate filter allow the Jetta TDI to meet the most stringent Tier 2 – Bin 5 emissions standard. The 2.0 liter can operate on B5 biodiesel without complaint.

The car comes out with a reasonable price of $21,990, which can be considered a good choice for a new car.Obviously it got good resale value. The Jetta comes with the TDI engine which costs around $1,300 .

Ford Focus ECOnetic 1.6 TDCi Duratorq Diesel

Ford Focus ECOnetic 1.6 TDCi Duratorq Diesel can be considered as the no.1 green car of this year. This is not entirely a green car as it suggests. But it gives us a trend into the green convergence from the makers like Ford.

The Focus is the first model in the diesel ECOnetic range, the name Ford has given to its new range of low CO2 models that will be rolled out to the Mondeo later this year and the Fiesta in 2009.The Focus has CO2 emissions of only 115g/km (65.6mpg on a combined test) and, with a diesel particulate filter fitted as standard on the 110PS engine, a WGC? rating of only 33.The engineering behind ECOnetic includes a recalibrated engine management system, and an improved aero-profile (the car is almost 1 cm closer to the ground compared with a regular Focus). Together with a lower grille and new front bumper skirt, a rear spoiler and slimmer low rolling resistance tyres, the aerodynamic drag coefficient is reduced to 0.31.In conjunction with EcoBoost that combines petrol direct injection and turbo-charging technology to improve vehicle fuel economy, the ECOnetic range is part of Ford's response to growing demand for more fuel efficient models.Interestingly the emissions improvements are achieved without fitting longer gear ratios (as adopted by the VW BlueMotion and BMW EfficientDynamics models). The results of these changes for the Focus ECOnetic 109PS is CO2 emissions of only 115g/km (65.6mpg on a combined test cycle) and a WGC? rating lower than the bench-mark Prius hybrid.

Priced from £16,545 (about £250 above the Style model with the same engine).Although it's worse for local air pollution, it actually beats the Prius for real-world miles per gallon. Meanwhile, the driving experience is smooth and the interior is quality.Let us hope more from all the car makers in a better wawy to help something about our environment and the nature.

Aleutia E2 -the power saving computer

Do you people realize how much power is mugged up by your PC?.It can go up to 500w of electricity.
Here is the solution for all your worries regarding the expensive electricity bills which often give you an electric shock whose lion's share is your so called computing device PC.Aleutia E2 is introduced keeping in the mind of the power consumption details. It takes only a few watts ,precisely 8W which is only a 2% of the actual consumption of a standard PC.

The computer uses solid-state memory cards rather than hard drives for
storage, no high energy consuming CD or DVD drives, and uses energy efficient
memory and processors. Aleutia runs at 500MHz with 1GB of RAM which can be considered a better performance with the existing technology. It can run all the basic applicatios like firefox and open office and all in the ubuntu Linux. The new release contains a windows XP version with a wifi enabled one.Its size is about only 11.5cm x 11.5cm x 3.5cm.of course it won't be a very efficient in streming videos like in the youtube or in google earth.
But it would be a very good for any other common applications like word processing or blogging or mailing.

Aleutia inttroduced its first PC Aleutia E1 keeping the mind of thee developing countries where power supply is not adequate. It had the solar cells even.Als this PC will be of course a very good example for green product or so called green gadgets. It doesn't take too much of resources for its construction also.
For more information log on to aleutia.com.

Dell Vostro comes with the greenest monitor

We are all in the campaign of getting back the greenery of our earth.Greenery now has a broader meaning not only indicating the forest.Yes it means the new trend of living without destroying our mother earth. So all of us must play our part in that. Here Dell once again showing their respect for the green technology
with its introduction of new desktop Vostro 410 with its greenest monitor.

Dell has announced its first EPEAT Gold-certified monitor, the 20-inches E207. The monitor has earned EPEAT's highest recognition in terms of environmental impact as at least 25 percent of the plastic used in the monitor is recycled says the reports. The monitor comes with a HDCP-ready DVI port and a 1,680 x 1,050 (WSXGA+) resolution.

Apart from the green monitor it satisfies all the new features that must be in a new desktop. It comes with the Intel Core 2 Quad processors,512 MB graphi9cs card and 800 MHz system memory. It can go upto 3TB of local storage and memory with a space to include four hard drives in its body.It has more expansion slots and more bays holding up to six PCIe/PCI cards.

Algae-the new green fuel

Can't you believe that?Yes its true the next generation fuel which could hopefully change the dependency of the non renewable fossil fuels as source of energy would be algae. Algaes are actually green aquatic organisms that through the process of the photosynthesis can entrap our solar energy to produce vegetable oil which can be decomposed into the bio diesel. This bio diesel can be just used like other petroleum oils in the combustion engine. Algaes main advantage is that it doesn't need any fertile soil to flourish. It can be grown in any ponds or tanks or in any deserts. It just need only sunlight, water and carbon dioxide to multiply like weeds. Also because of its high surface area it can absorb nutrients more quickly than any oil producing crops and require much less space than them.

Process of extraction
  • As soon as the algae colony becomes mature nullify the nitrogen supply.
  • The organisms react to the nitrogen deficiency by producing extra fats in the cells.
  • When enough fats are made the cells are collected and broke them apart.
  • With the help of suitable solvents extract the fats out from the water soluble proteins and sugar.
  • Purify the collected fats, and evaporate the solvent .
  • Now a process called transesterification is carried out to transform the bio diesel out of the fats collected from the cells.

Geo engineering-new green technology

Geo Engineering -What does it mean? what isits motive? So many questions may arise when you hear a word or term like that. The answer is simple I tell you.It is a drastic counter measure to reduce or nullify the ill effects on our planet due to various human activities like global warming,Polar ice melting etc..This branch of science tries to deal with the problem of global issues like this with a solution which can create an opposite effect on the environment to get it back to its green nature using the natural phenomenons to counter act it. This concept was actually rejected by many scientists as a 'fringe science' when it was introduced back in 1960s.But now its application or use is more clear and transparent that one can't easily avoid it.

One of the examples they trying to do is to create an artificial volcano to counter act the devastating effect of global warming due to the accumulation of green house gases like carbon dioxide, methane etc...
This volcanic erruptions can release to the atmo
sphere tons of sulphur dioxide into the stratosphere which can cause a temporary cooling effect on the planet. The sulphur dioxide would react to form a cloud of sulfuric acid droplets that would in turn reflect sunlight and helps in cooling.how these materials aredelivered to the stratosphere is not actually designed. It can be achieved by using ballons or cannons or high altitude flying planes. But these project would cost a lot of financial holdings. It can cost like about $1 billion to $50 billion a year. Also there is a problem dealing with these valcanic erruptions that it hinder the repair of ozone hole.Isn't it worth doing or just a waste of money is a hot topic in the discussions of many scientists. But really no cost would be so high if it can make a change in the global scenario that can reduce a devastating effect like global warming.

Concept of Green Latop

What do you think when you look for laptop which is green. What all things one must consider.Though green laptop products are not very popular, these things to be considered more seriously these days. Here are some important concepts to be considered.
  • Future laptops could knock 10 percent off their energy use just by replacing hard drives with solid-state, or flash, memory, which consume less power.
  • We can avoid toxic wastes like the lead in solder, for example, is now being replaced by silver and copper.
  • Use of new bioplastics-plant based polymers consume less oil and energy to produce than traditional plastics.
  • Displays made of or organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs), form images with electroluminescent films can be used instead of power consuming LEDs.
